Onyx Capital Group is proud to announce the appointment of Chris Gooder as the new Performance Director for Trading. With a distinguished background in Performance Psychology, including notable experience in Formula 1, Gooder brings a wealth of expertise in optimising performance and maximizing the potential of Onyx Capital Group. He is set to spearhead the management of elite-level traders, leveraging his unique skillset to drive success and innovation within the company.
Gooder says “my background and training is in understanding how the mind and behaviour impacts performance under pressure.” Having spent eight seasons working in Formula 1, he felt that environment was the ultimate test of his skillset. Whilst the context of the Onyx Trading floor is starkly different, he says “the same principles still apply. It’s about supporting people working in highly challenging environments to demonstrate resilience and optimise performance.”
Gooder’s tenure in the high-pressure environment of Formula 1 racing has equipped him with invaluable insights into cultivating peak performance under intense conditions. Now, he eagerly anticipates applying these insights to the world of trading, where precision, strategy, and adaptability are equally paramount.
Onyx co-founder and Director of Trading Omar Kayaam says, “Chris’ elite sports background and experience in providing guidance to athletes in high pressure careers and situations will be extremely useful in coaching our elite graduates in their early stages, all the way to Desk Heads, where skills including resilience and leadership are tested.”
While the softer skills and emotional and physiological coaching tend to be overlooked, they play a fundamental role in the development of elite Traders. We have complete faith that Gooder will optimise Trader performance, enhance decision-making processes, and foster a culture of continuous improvement at Onyx Capital Group. His expertise will be instrumental in guiding traders to navigate market complexities with confidence and precision.
Chris says he was ready to make the move to Onyx as “it was definitely time for a new challenge, and this was the environment I saw myself having the biggest impact in going forward. I was really impressed by how enthused and excited those I met at Onyx were by the possibilities of what could be achieved in this space.”
Chris Gooder’s appointment signifies Onyx’s commitment to innovation and excellence. His arrival heralds a new era of strategic performance enhancement and underscores the company’s dedication to empowering traders to reach their full potential whilst remaining the world’s number one liquidity provider in oil futures.
